Spreading of data consists of two operations: Channelisation and Scrambling. Firstly, each complex valued data symbol of equation 1 (or of equation 8 in the case of E-HICH) is spread with a real valued channelisation code of length Q_k: for 3.84Mcps TDD and 1.28Mcps TDD, ; for 7.68Mcps TDD, . The resulting sequence is then scrambled by a complex sequence : the sequence is of length 16 for the 3.84Mcps and 1.28Mcps options; it is of length 32 for the 7.68Mcps option.
